Merlion Park

A fish with a lion's head.
The icon immediately synonymous with Singapore can be found in Merlion Park. The statue of Merlion (a lion with the body of a fish) dominates Singapore, 8.6 metres high weighing 70 tonnes, from its vantage point in the 2,500 m² park. Merlion's body in the form of a fish refers to Singapore's origins as a fishing village.
The statue was created in 1972 by Kwan Sai Kheong and Lim Nah Seng and has since been moved further into Merlion Park to its current location facing Fullerton Hotel and Marina Bay.
